Content & search visibility

On-page
optimization.

On-page optimization, or on-page SEO, helps people and search engines understand what your website is about. We work on your content, page structure, and the language your customers use when they search.

Good content should be engaging, informative, and unique! If your website sounds like everyone else’s, it’s harder to give people a reason to choose you.

Content optimization

Write for the person reading.

The cornerstone of on-page optimization is high-quality, relevant content. Give your customers something useful, in language they understand.

High-quality, relevant content

You might notice that on this page I am speaking directly to you as the reader. I am speaking in plain English to make the text easier to follow. Hopefully you will find it informative, engaging, and of value to you!

Your own experience, examples, and explanations help make the content yours. Start with what someone needs to know about your service, then answer the questions that would help them make a decision.

Readability

Clear language, short paragraphs, descriptive headings, bullet points, and useful images all make content easier to read and digest. Give people a way to scan the page before they decide to read every word.

If you use WordPress, tools such as Yoast SEO can help you review readability. Other writing tools offer a Flesch-Kincaid score. In my experience, a seventh- to eighth-grade reading level is a useful general guideline for a broad audience.

But know your audience! Highly technical content or writing for an academic audience may need a different approach. A score is a guide, not the goal.

Keyword research & integration

We look for searches that are relevant to your business and realistic opportunities to compete. That can help us find the low-hanging fruit, so to speak. A useful new page or article can address a question your existing website hasn’t answered.

If it doesn’t gain traction right away, that’s okay. We review what people are searching for and how the page performs, then decide what to improve. Publishing more by itself isn’t a guarantee of results.

01

Primary keywords

These are the main terms or topics you want a page to be found for. Research helps us understand what people mean by a search, how it relates to your service, and whether the page can give them a useful answer.

02

Secondary & long-tail keywords

These are more specific phrases related to the main topic. Someone might type a short phrase or ask a full question by voice or through an AI assistant. The important part is understanding what they are trying to find.

03

Natural keyword placement

Use relevant terms where they make sense in your headings and content. Avoid keyword stuffing. Search engines don’t need the same phrase repeated over and over, and your readers certainly don’t either!

04

Related words & meaning

Search engines can understand related language and context. If you write about cars, words such as vehicles, driving, and transportation may come up naturally. You don’t need to force a list of synonyms into the page. Just explain the subject clearly.

Keep your content useful.

Refresh a page when information changes, when an explanation could be clearer, or when there’s something useful to add. Updating content should make it more helpful, rather than simply make it look new.

But be careful! If a page is already bringing in traffic and enquiries, don’t overhaul it without looking at what is working. Significant changes can affect its performance, so make improvements with a reason and measure what happens.

What about AI search?

People also ask questions through AI tools and search features. Clear, accurate content that answers real questions is a sensible foundation for those experiences too.

For Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, the same SEO fundamentals apply. There isn’t a separate set of special optimizations required, and being included is never guaranteed.

Let’s make your content work harder.
